Board approves new Elementary School Zoning - Dec 19, 2023

DECEMBER 19, 2023

During the December 18, 2023 Argyle ISD regularly scheduled monthly School Board meeting, the Board of Trustees approved the Elementary Zoning recommendation for the fall 2024-2025 academic school year.

With the newly-named Jane Ruestmann Elementary School slated to open in August 2024, adjustments to elementary attendance zones were necessary to accommodate enrollment numbers of this new campus. Argyle ISD administration collaborated with the district’s demographers (Zonda Education) to develop this zoning recommendation, balancing enrollment numbers across all elementary schools while considering the potential impact of future enrollment growth.

The Board approved the grandfathering of both options presented by AISD administration. One section includes a portion of homes east of I-35 and north of Old Justin Road. These students would be allowed to attend the new Jane Ruestmann Elementary (located at 6601 Cleveland Gibbs Rd) or select a one-time grandfather to remain at Hilltop Elementary until a new rezone or the family vacates the property.

The second section includes homes directly across the street from West Elementary, which includes the area east of Sunflower, south of 16th St., and west of Harvest Way. These students would be allowed to attend Jane Ruestmann Elementary or select a one-time grandfather option to remain at West Elementary or until a new rezone or the family vacates the property.

Following the winter break, families residing within the designated grandfathered areas will receive a detailed message containing instructions on how to make their choice regarding zoning preferences. This communication will guide families through the process and outline the necessary steps to ensure a smooth transition for students within the revised attendance boundaries.

The Argyle ISD community's engagement and feedback during this process have been invaluable. The district highly values the insights and contributions of our dedicated parents, as they play a vital role in shaping our educational community.
